چکیده

Sinking Creek (HUC 06010103046), in the Watauga watershed of northeast Tennessee, is impaired due to Escherichia coli. To assess how E. coli and other water quality parameters fluctuated during storm events, samples were collected with automated samplers eight storms at two locations: a feeder spring. Turbidity electrical conductivity data loggers deployed creek, dissolved oxygen (DO) was measured situ. The presence optical brighteners, used detergents an indicator residential wastewater, assessed using cotton fabric both sites analyzed by external laboratory. Colilert Quanti-Tray method process for Relationships between lagged precipitation cross-correlation. At turbidity increased within 2 h precipitation, exceeding single sample standard 941 cfu 100 ml−1 storm. spring, became elevated more quickly than stream, 30 min decreased below event. Electrical 1.5 DO levels higher creek Optical brightener analysis indicated possible wastewater one sampled storms. Targeted sampling dye tracing are recommended validate this hypothesis. These results may be inform field methods similar studies will useful restoration efforts Creek.

Water Quality in Walnut Creek Watershed: Nitrate-Nitrogen in Soils, Subsurface Drainage Water, and Shallow Groundwater

Nonpoint source contamination of surface and groundwater resources with nitrate-N (NO3-N) has been linked to agriculture across the midwestern USA. A 4-yr study was conducted to assess the extent of NO3-N leaching in a central Iowa field. Water flow rate was monitored continuously and data were stored on an internal datalogger. Water samples for chemical analysis were collected weekly provided ...

Hydrologic and Water Quality Monitoring on Turkey Creek Watershed, Francis Marion National Forest, Sc

The re-initiation of a 7,260 ha forested watershed study on Turkey Creek, a 3 order stream, within the Francis Marion National forest in South Carolina, completes the development of a multi-scale hydrology and ecosystem monitoring framework in the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Hydrology and water quality monitoring began on the Santee Experimental Forest in the 1960’s, and represent an important long...

Assessment of climate change impacts on hydrology and water quality with a watershed modeling approach.

The assessment of hydrologic responses to climate change is required in watershed management and planning to protect water resources and environmental quality. This study is designed to evaluate and enhance watershed modeling approach in characterizing climate change impacts on water supply and ecosystem stressors. Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) was selected as a base model, and improved...

Stochastic Watershed Water Quality Simulation for Tmdl Development – a Case Study in the Newport Bay Watershed

Systematic consideration of uncertainty in data, model structure, and other factors is generally unaddressed in most Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) calculations. Our previous studies developed the Management Objectives Constrained Analysis of Uncertainty (MOCAU) approach as an uncertainty analysis technique specifically for watershed water quality models, based on a synthetic case. In this stu...
